Sweet victory!
Not getting a chance to race in Kitzbühel this year was really disappointing. Not least considering the fact that so many of my sponsors were there; it would have been fantastic to race. But when you are an elite athlete you cannot focus on things past, you must always look forward. And this forced me to focus even more on the upcoming competitions.
At the end of January, directly after my previous newsletter, I competed two tough Super-G FIS races in Saalbach. I won one of them and finished #5 in the other. The race was really competitive with many contenders that normally race the World Cup but who didn’t attend the Olympics. It was a really strong performance from me that gave me important FIS-points for the world ranking. After getting these results, I was #1 in both Downhill, Super-G and Alpine Combination among all Swedish racers on the World ranking.
In the beginning of February, it was time for a new tough FIS-competition: Super-G in Garmisch Partenkirchen. It was foggy and tough conditions in the slope, with almost the same opponents as in Saalbach and I started with bib no 1. I felt in really good shape but made a big mistake in each run, so I ended up with a 17th and a 24th place. But the margins were very narrow as usual and if you don´t push the limit you will never win. When you give it all it’s the small mistakes that will have big consequences. That’s life in skiing. Just keep on racing and look forward.
It was really fun to see so many people at the lunch meeting with Team Alex Köll at Erikstorp on Feb 16. Great fun to be part of the meeting via link from Austria and to give you an update from my world.
After that, I immediately scored a 6th place at the Alpine Combined EC race in Sarntal, which was super. A really tight race where only tenths of seconds split number 20 from the winner. I scored my personal best FIS-points ever with the 6th place.
Now I am looking forward to race European Cup in Kvitfjell Norway, 2 Downhill races 5-6 of March. You can keep an eye on my races via the FIS website and calendar FIS-Calendar or on my Facebook.
See you soon!
