A new season is coming up
Hey all downhill-lovers,
Here is an update about the summer. After being in Landskrona, my Swedish hometown, for vacation it was 100 % focus on Dry-land training. A lot of time in the gym and a lot of strength-, conditioning- and rehab-training. Still I need to work on rehab training to take care of the injuries from last season. One of them is the injury in quadriceps after the crash I had in Kitzbühel.
Then we have had the first skiing camp in Stelvio, Italy with our new team. We have a new coach and his name is Charlie Bichler. It feels really good. He has earlier been in the Austrian team for many years and the last two years he has been working with Tina Weirather. The energy in the group feels really well and our motivation is great.
After Stelvio week it was another full week of physical, training, strength and conditioning. It has been extremely tough because the weather has been so warm. We have been sweating a lot. The preparations has proceeded really well and now we are on our second ski camp in Zermatt with the national team.
I also got some days at home on the Mölltal glacier with my own trainer Peter. But now in Zermatt and we have the technique guys with us, Matts Olsson. The focus therefore is mostly on our technical parts of skiing. At the same time the coaches in the team are planning on our next camp in Chile, the problem is though that there is very little snow at the time. No one really knows yet what will happen. Most likely it will be post-poned until there is snow enough otherwise we need to stay in Europé. Everybody wants to go to Chile to get away from the glacier snow and get some real winter snow. It is easy to think about climate change when they don´t have any snow in the Andes even though it´s winter time.
Soon we will leave the technique skis and putting on the long skis. It´s important with the new model we have got to get them on snow as soon as possible. My service man Ziga is doing a great job for me and all the different pairs of skis. What a service man he is!
I feel really motivated for the upcoming season and the first year we compete as a team in the World Cup only. We will get our own physio that will follow us around and with a new head coach we really get the support from the association.
I really hope to see you before the season to tell you more. If we don´t meet just keep ypur eyes open on my Facebook and Instagram. Don´t forget to hook up for the Hahnenkammrennen-trip with Team Alex Köll 2020. It´s great if we could gather a big group of people again.
Take care!
/Alex
